The catholics take another backward step
Once again, the Catholic Church has taken a backward step. Once again, they have pushed human rights, common decency, the basic fundamental principles of fairness and equality back to the dark ages.
After a week like a porn stars cock at work (long and hard), I had vowed to come home and kick back into a bout of Killzone 2 with some of my long lost Sydney gaming buddies. But I became somewhat upset with what I saw on the way home.
Jumping on the (delayed) Connex service and picking up a discarded copy of mX however forced me to do something with this domain that I have had laying dormant for a year or two. I just needed to rant about the latest outrage that this anachronistic institution has thrust into the public consciousness.
The title
“Gay priest ban: Catholic “deviant” test blasted”
The logic behind it is ludicrous, even by the ramshackle, slipshod, make it up as we go along standards of the Catholic church.
Apparently, priests who “appear” to be gay are deviants who could pose a threat to children…
Hmm… let us take a step back before I begin my rant.
I will gently lay my cards upon the table immediately:
- I am an atheist (in the sense that I can positively disprove the existence of every god that has been postulated to me)
- I was raised a catholic
- I have been excommunicated
- I am straight
- I am a free thinker
- I am left leaning with a twist of cynical social apathy that sees me indulge in the right occasionally
- I think that Revelations is fantastic fantasy reading
- I detest violence or abuse of any kind, particularly that of the mental or emotional.
- I have never been (physically) molested by a member of the clergy (or aany other type of person)
Apparently, and this is a tired old debate that has been going on for an aeon - but homosexuality is a deviation, an abomination…
Well, where does the bible exactly say this?
Leviticus…
Leviticus is part of the old testament… a book written by superstitious peasants with no understanding of science or indeed any kind of basic human tolerance, this is from whence Christianity derives its bigotry toward homosexuals.
Interestingly enough, that self same book also says:
15:16 - “When a man has an emission of semen, he must bathe his whole body with water, and he will be unclean till evening”
15:19-23 “When a woman has her regular flow of blood, the impurity of her monthly period will last seven days, and anyone who touches her will be unclean till evening.
20 ” ‘Anything she lies on during her period will be unclean, and anything she sits on will be unclean. 21 Whoever touches her bed must wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean till evening. 22 Whoever touches anything she sits on must wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean till evening. 23 Whether it is the bed or anything she was sitting on, when anyone touches it, he will be unclean till evening.”
19:27 “Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard.”
19:33 “When an alien lives with you in your land, do not mistreat him. 34 The alien living with you must be treated as one of your native-born. Love him as yourself”
19:16 “‘Do not go about spreading slander among your people.”
Of course, I could go on - the “good book” is filled with such contradictions, superstitions and outright insanity (something about a beast with horns and coronets or something at one point).
I don’t even need to point out how ludicrous that this book of the old testament is - the self same one from which the Catholic church and fundamentalist christians draw their hatred of homosexuals from - in order to make the point that the self same people who wish to alienate and preclude members of our society from our society, themselves disobey this apparently sacred vessel of truth.
Homosexuality does not breed paedophilia and more than heterosexuality does.
To claim that it does is akin to suggesting that all priests are closet homosexuals because they like wearing dresses and have forbidden women from entering the priesthood because they are afraid that they will be outfrocked…
I mean, for fucks sake, we all know that gay men (women are out of the equation, it is the catholic church after all) are sensitive, have great fashion sense, are generally well educated (now who is the stereotypical one?!) - if the church wants to modernise, what better way than to encourage gay priests?
I suppose that self loathing Catholic homosexuals like John Heard don’t help, but that is a matter for another day.
When will these bigots learn that this alleged Jesus character said something about turning the other cheek?
